Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them leads Sky Cinema's September premieres
Every day there's a brand new movie premiere on Sky Cinema and highlights over the Summer include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Secret Life of Pets, Moana and Doctor Strange.
September will be a huge month with highlights including Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It’s back to JK Rowling’s wizarding world we go, as Harry Potter veteran David Yates takes the reins for a charming fantasy adventure set in 1920s New York. Eddie Redmayne is Newt Scamander, the author of the titular Hogwarts textbook who arrives in America with a battered and seemingly bottomless suitcase containing all manner of extraordinary creatures. Naturally they escape, so Newt finds himself teaming up with out-of-favour Magical Congress worker Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston) and Muggle/No-Maj Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler). It’s not all fun and games, though. There are dark forces at play in the Big Apple, and Samantha Morton’s venom-spitting antiwitch activist seems to have some kind of connection with top Congress agent Percival Graves (Colin Farrell).
Also in September, Clint Eastwood directs this stirring biographical drama about the heroic, life-saving actions of Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger (Tom Hanks), the veteran pilot who, in 2009, safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in the middle of the Hudson River. All of the 155 passengers and crew lived to tell the tale, but as the media and public were hailing him a hero, Sully was hauled in front of a panel of investigators and ordered to explain himself. Why hadn’t he followed protocol? Aaron Eckhart plays co-pilot Jeff Skiles, while strong support comes from Laura Linney and Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn.
And there's more. Passengers is a stylish sci-fi romance starring Chris Pratt as Jim Preston, a hunky engineer who’s one of thousands sleeping in suspended animation aboard the spaceship Avalon. The ship’s destination is a far-off planet called Homestead II, but instead of happily hibernating away before beginning a new life among the stars Jim suffers a literal rude awakening. Shockwaves from a meteor shower cause his pod to malfunction and he’s thrust into the vast, futuristic interiors of the Avalon 90 years too soon. With only a creepy android bartender (Michael Sheen) to keep him company poor Jim’s at serious risk of losing the plot, but then he spies beautiful, brilliantly named journo Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence)…
Another highlight is The Accountant. Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) gives the driest of professions a Hollywood makeover. The result? An immensely watchable action thriller starring Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a genius accountant and high-functioning autistic happy to clean bucketloads of cash for some very dangerous people. His CV doesn’t end there, though. He’s also an ass-kicking assassin who’s as lethal with his bare fists as he is with a high-powered sniper rifle, skills he puts to good use when a job for John Lithgow’s seemingly respectable company proves to be anything but open and shut. Anna Kendrick and JK Simmons provide big-name support.
