2017 will be an exciting year for Chicago born, L.A based singer-songwriter Aleem as he brings his acoustic-guitar-driven brand of R&B-tinged pop in the UK with the single Inside Out.
Before he reached the age of 12, Aleem was penning songs that showed a melodic sensibility well beyond his years. In his late teens he began working with Grammy Award-winning producer Craig Bauer. “Craig saw my vision and took me under his wing to develop my sound, which helped me learn a lot about my craft and figure out who I was as an artist,”recalls Aleem. Now, after joining Fifth Harmony for an acclaimed live arena tour of Europe in 2016, Aleem is back and ready to release his music here in the UK.
The single Inside Out is a synth-laced, slow-building and cinematic arrangement which perfectly escalate the song’s emotional intensity. “‘Inside Out’ came from being in a relationship where I felt like I was the one bringing everything down, but I couldn’t control it,” says Aleem. “It’s about battling your inner demons and questioning whether you’re in the right place to give love, but also recognizing that you really do need that love.”
The track features on his E.P. Open Letters (released November 2016)- made with producers Ryan Stewart (Carly Rae Jepsen, Owl City) and Jon Levine (Selena Gomez, Cher Lloyd). It finds Aleem taking a storytelling-like approach to his lyrics and co-wrote all of the album’s ten tracks, working with such songwriters as Scott Harris (Shawn Mendes, Jessie J) and Anjulie (Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj) and instilling each song with a daring vulnerability. Inside Out is no exception.
Having spent 2016 establishing himself as one of the most exciting up and coming pop artists around, now the rising-star continues to develop his trademark trail of what he describes as “deep and descriptive stories that the listener can immerse themselves into.”
