Interview: Tom Parker on itv's The Real Full Monty: Live
One of the biggest TV hits of last year is back for a brand new full frontal extravaganza and this time it’s live from Sheffield, the home of the original Full Monty strip.
In The Real Full Monty: Live, Ashley Banjo and Alexander Armstrong put together an even bigger and bolder show in their balls out commitment to raising awareness of men’s cancers.
A brand new cast of male celebrities - TV Presenter Jeff Brazier, Former Rugby International Ugo Monye, TOWIE star James Argent, The Wanted’s Tom Parker, Ex-footballer John Hartson, Celebrity Chef Ainsley Harriot, and former Eastender Johnny Partridge - will share their personal stories and learn how to shed their iconic security guard uniforms to stir up a storm on stage in Sheffield and inspire even more men to make vital checks that could save lives.
Tom Parker tells us more...
What made you agree to take part in the return of The Real Full Monty?
The whole purpose of the show is to raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer and that in itself was enough for me to take part. If us doing this, can save one person’s life by then getting checked by a doctor, then it is totally worth baring all.
Did you watch the show last year? Have the guys given you any advice?
I did watch. It was such a great show and it really felt like everyone was there to support one another. Ashley and Xander are doing it again this year and have been really great in building our confidence.
Which element has been the most challenging – learning the choreography, confidence, the strip itself?
I think everyone has individual challenges. Some of us have never really danced before but for me personally, baring all in front of an audience is probably the biggest challenge.
What has been your highlight or funniest moment from filming so far?
We all had to dress as security guards in a shopping centre and try the choreography while shoppers walked by. There were definitely a few strange looks!
Is there a good camaraderie between the guys?
Yes! Everyone is super supportive of each other and we’ve all got our own reasons for taking part.
Have you been in touch with the girls taking part in the Ladies Night spin-off?
I know some of the lads have been in contact with some of the girls. It’s great that the girls are also raising awareness for Breast Cancer too. We need to try and break down these social barriers. It might just save a life.
Are you nervous about getting on stage for the final performance?
I’m a little nervous but I feel comfortable on stage so I think once we’re all up there together, there’ll definitely be a sense of togetherness.
What do you hope the outcome of the documentary will be? (in terms of raising awareness etc.)
If we can save one life by doing this show, then it will totally be worth the anxiousness about stripping off.
Are you a fan of the original film?
I genuinely don’t know anyone that isn’t! It’s such an iconic film and when the music comes in, something happens to us all and you just feel like you are in the moment.
The Real Full Monty: Live airs on itv on Wednesday 28 March at 9pm.
