Nothing But Culture Review: White Christmas at Curve is the perfect Christmas treat.

Journey to Vermont this winter in Curve Leicester’s joyous Made at Curve production of the classic festive favourite, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas!

Following the huge success of last year’s Scrooge The Musical, Artistic Director Nikolai Foster reunites with two-time Olivier Award winning choreographer Stephen Mear to bring Irving Berlin’s timeless musical to Leicester.

Based on the Paramount Pictures film of the same name starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and book by David Ives and Paul BlakeWhite Christmastells the story of Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis and their successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route for their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former Army commander.

Danny Mac (Sunset Boulevard) and Emma Williams (An Officer and a Gentleman – The Musical) return to our stage as Bob Wallace and Betty Haynes, with Monique Young (Kiss Me Kate, Kilworth House) as Judy Haynes and Olivier Award-nominated Dan Burton (Top Hat, Kilworth House) as Phil Davis

Featuring a dazzling, instantly recognisable score including Blue SkiesSisters, Count your Blessings and arguably the most famous Christmas song of them all, White Christmas, Irving Berlin’s beloved Broadway sensation is an enduring tale of friendship, camaraderie, hope and the pursuit of happiness, told through spectacular dance routines and some of the greatest musical theatre songs ever written.

Our verdict: Curve Leicester have delivered the perfect slice of festive flair in this classic tale, which is laden with a quality score, excellent performances and even a touch of snow. Clearly produced with a generous budget, the sets and production are outstanding and it’s an absolute joy to see classic Hollywood brought to life before your eyes. Definitely not one to miss, see for tickets.
