Film buffs are in for a treat this month as Sky Cinema brighten up January with some huge film premieres. Check out these highlights, below…

Red Sparrow

Available from Friday 11 January

Jennifer Lawrence plays a Russian honey-trap spy - a Red Sparrow - in this thriller from director Francis "Hunger Games" Lawrence. After a horrific on-stage accident, Bolshoi Ballet prima ballerina Dominika (Lawrence) is recruited to Russia's intelligence agency SVR by sociopath Matthias Schoenaerts. Under the tutelage of icy headmistress Charlotte Rampling, she's tasked with manipulating a "chance" encounter with Nate Nash (Joel Edgerton), an American C.I.A. operative.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Stand-alone Star Wars spin-off chronicling the story of the young Han Solo, played by Alden Ehrenreich. Director Ron Howard traces Han's trajectory from rebel pilot to criminal colluder with Woody Harrelson's intergalactic tea leaf. Along the way we discover the circumstances leading to Han meeting his future brother-in-arms Chewbacca and the first time he took the controls of the Millennium Falcon.

Pacific Rim: Uprising

In this heavy-metal robot sequel, Star Wars stalwart John Boyega plays Jake Pentecost, son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost from the original, and finds himself facing a new threat from the Kaiju., the giant submarine monsters. A burnt-out Jake reunites with Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots against a fresh menace from the deep.
