Review: Scrooge The Musical at Curve Leicester.
The festive season is the time for theatres to put on their finest productions, and this year is no different with Curve Leicester’s original production of Scrooge the Musical.
The magic of Christmas is encapsulated in two hours of song and dance based on one of the greatest stories by Charles Dickens: A Christmas Carol. Scrooge the Musical transports us back to Victorian London, to a time where few had many, and many had few. Ebenezer Scrooge is the man you love to hate; ruthless and rich, yet poor in love and life. A visit from the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future is required to teach him the real meaning of Christmas.
As you would expect, this is a blockbuster production that ticks all the boxes; the pantomime villain, belly laughs, big show numbers, heartfelt performances, and ultimately a powerful message about true wealth in this world. The set and costumes, along with the score and choreography will keep you enthralled from beginning to end.
Scrooge the Musical brings the Christmas message home in a vibrant, colourful, energetic performance that is fun for the whole family.
Our verdict: Think Mary Poppins meets Oliver! with a Christmas twist.
