Review: Alexandra Burke is back in the habit for Craig Revel-Horwood's 'Sister Act'.

Sing Hallelujah for the all new production of Sister Act starringAlexandra Burke.

An all new production of the Broadway and West End smash hit musical comedy returns to the UK starring Alexandra Burke (The X Factor, The Bodyguard).

Directed and choreographed by Craig Revel HorwoodSister Actis the feel-amazing musical comedy based on the smash hit movie starring Whoopi Goldberg and Maggie Smith.

Featuring original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast, Newsies, Enchanted), dazzling dance routines and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco, Sister Act is the funniest and funkiest musical around.

Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder. Under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she won’t be found – a Convent!

Disguised as a nun and under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, sisterhood and music.  We checked out a performance at Curve, Leicester.

For reasons that I are still unclear to me, I find Whoopi Goldberg surprisingly easy to watch.....which means that anyone playing the lead role in Sister Act has a lot to live up to!  However, I thoroughly enjoyed the Curve's current production with Alexandra Burke, and the rest of the audience seemed to agree!  If you're familiar with the film, then be warned that the script and music obviously differ, but both were fabulous, and the music was all the better for the fact that the actors appeared to be playing their own instruments (we did spend a lot of time trying to figure out if they were but have been assured so!).

Leicester's Curve Theatre has a fantastic programme of shows coming up, including Bugsy Malone and Grease! Check out for details.
